NDF is now recruiting a
Director, Portfolio Origination and Management
to lead the department and assume the overall responsibility for origination and management of NDF’s portfolio of high-impact projects, ensuring that the project portfolio generates the intended impact.
The position includes 12 direct reports driving the development and impact for 135 projects in 30 countries. In this role, you will be part of the management team of NDF and you will be reporting to the Managing Director. The position is based in Helsinki, Finland. The role will include travelling.
Key role responsibilities and tasks:
Provide a clear vision for the Portfolio Origination & Management (POM) department and provide the necessary guidance to move the NDF portfolio forward, ensuring its relevance, strategic vision and alignment.
Provide expert advice on transactions in both public and private sector projects, delivering clear and timely guidance to the team in both origination- and management phase.
Represent the POM-perspective within the management team and make sure that POM can contribute to the “One NDF” in cooperation with other departments.
Ensure a smooth and respectful cooperation with other departments by actively developing the joint understanding of roles and responsibilities, and to ensure adequate staffing of POM.
Act as a bridge between the department and the management team to provide feedback and understanding for decisions impacting the future directions of the portfolio.
Disseminate and operationalize outreach and learning when participating and networking with partners at different fora, to bring back to the organisation investment proposals as well as policy-level insights and knowledge.
Build and nurture partnerships internally and externally.
Leverage and establish a solid overview of used and available tools, systems, and processes and be visionary about synergies and opportunities that can increase efficiency in the team/ organization.
Represent NDF in international public fora and provide strategic support to secure the continued relevance of NDF in the international climate finance architecture.
A master’s level university degree in a relevant field.
A minimum of 15 years of experience from an international institution with project, program and portfolio management.
Field experience from markets in developing countries in Africa, Asia or Latin America, either through an earlier position in these regions, or through frequent professional visits.
In depth knowledge of climate and development finance for both public- and private sector projects.
Operational and transactional experience from project and financing structures relevant to NDF’s portfolio (grants, loans, equity, and blended structures).
Solid and proven leadership experience with an ability to motivate and develop staff.
Excellent spoken and written command of English, other language skills are considered an asset.
