Project Manager – Swedfund Project Accelerator
Water & Wastewater Infrastructure

About the Role
As a Project Manager at the Swedfund Project Accelerator, you will drive the development of high-impact water and wastewater infrastructure projects in low- and middle-income countries.
You'll collaborate directly with local project owners—such as public utilities, municipalities, and ministries—preparing projects for implementation. This includes drafting procurement documentation for project preparation (e.g., feasibility studies), supporting consultant procurement, overseeing consulting work, and assisting partners in securing project financing from entities like multilateral development banks.
Key Responsibilities
Project identification: Engage with local partners, international financial institutions, Team Sweden and Swedish companies to identify and assess new projects for support.
Project Preparation & Consultancy Management: Guide local project owners through early development stages. Draft Terms of References for feasibility studies and Environmental & Social Impact Assessments. Assist project owners in procuring technical consultancy companies and manage project delivery to ensure high-quality outcomes.
Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships and navigate complex dialogues with public actors, international partners, development banks, and Team Sweden.
Project Financing: Support partners in identifying and accessing financing solutions (e.g., multilateral development banks, export credit financing, etc).
Internal Development: Contribute to refining Swedfund’s internal project tools, processes, and systems.
The role requires ~4–6 international trips/year, approx. 5 days.
Qualifications & Profile
Required:
Education: Degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in water and wastewater infrastructure project development and management (e.g., within technical consultancies, utilities, or equipment suppliers).
International Context: Experience with international infrastructure projects.
Languages: Professional fluency in English (written and spoken).
Preferred / Advantageous:
Additional technical experience: experience with solid waste management, waste to energy, renewable energy or sustainable transport projects.
Work Experience in Low- and Middle-Income Countries
Financing Knowledge: Familiarity with multilateral development bank processes, export credit financing, etc.
Language proficiency: knowledge of additional languages of relevance for Swedfund’s markets, including but not limited to Ukrainian, French, Spanish, Swahili, Bahasa or others.
